Redrawing Germany’s Healthcare

Germany’s healthcare market is going through a complete makeover. Drastic changes in how hospitals work will cause drastic changes in how out-patient practices work. The former is funded by 50 billion EUR, the latter is not. Thank the KHVVG.

Hospitals are being regrouped: they need to scale their services up or down, open new departments or close old ones, and completely rethink their core infrastructure, cost centres and staffing. This will go on for 10 years.

At the same time some of the hospitals are going to start working as an outpatient facility, taking over patients from traditional outpatient-only practices, disrupting their operations, inevitably causing consolidation.

Both in and out-patient sectors are to be joined at the hip by cross-sector IT infrastructure, as they'd be serving the same patient under the same roof.

By all means, it’s good to be a health tech startup and investor in Germany right now. Not easy, but good.
