From [Sifted](https://sifted.eu/articles/alan-prosus-raise-series-g-valuation-health-tech?ref=marginsofcare.com) (emphasis mine):

> Healthtech startup Alan has raised a €480m Series G funding round, valuing the digital insurer and healthcare platform at €5.5bn. Dutch investment giant Prosus led the round, alongside existing backers Index Ventures and Teachers' Venture Growth, as well as new investor Dara Holdings.

> Founded in 2016, Alan began as a digital health insurance provider but **has expanded into a broader healthcare platform combining insurance, care and prevention services**. The company says its AI-native approach allows it to offer more personalised healthcare experiences while scaling with limited headcount growth.

Alan’s business model is interesting - the company doesn’t generate its profits from the [insurance premiums](https://marginsofcare.com/regular-vs-healthcare-insurance-patient-risk-profiles-insuring-the-long-tail/), instead it does so via subscriptions. From their [website](https://alan.com/en/business-model?ref=marginsofcare.com):

> That’s the core of our model: a per-member subscription, giving access to our innovative services through the Alan app. From day one, Alan’s ambition has been to be much more than an insurer. Every day, we commit to being the health partner that prevents, protects, and supports the employees of the organizations that trust us. To achieve this, we’ve developed innovative services that make healthcare more accessible for members while keeping costs under control.

Including “care and prevention services” as an add-on to the insurance package is something we also see in Germany, although there is no subscription price attached to it yet.
